Apple to Release Software Update for iPhone 12 in France

Apple has announced plans to release a software update for users of its iPhone 12 model in France. This decision comes after France's radiation watchdog raised concerns about the handset emitting electromagnetic waves above European limits. The National Frequencies Agency found that the specific absorption rate (SAR) of the iPhone 12 stood at 5.74 watts per kilogram, exceeding the regulatory limit of 4 watts per kilogram.

It is important to note that the higher emissions were observed only in the base model of the iPhone 12, while the iPhone 12 mini and Pro lineup remain unaffected. In response to the watchdog's findings, Apple is taking steps to prevent iPhones with excessive emissions from reaching customers. Additionally, the company plans to provide a software update for iPhones that have already been sold, if possible, in order to address these concerns.

An Apple spokesperson stated, "We will issue a software update for users in France to accommodate the protocol used by French regulators. We look forward to iPhone 12 continuing to be available in France."

Although the iPhone 12 was released in 2020 and has already been widely distributed, including in France, Apple recently unveiled its new iPhone 15 lineup and has discontinued direct sales of some older models, including the iPhone 12. This strategic move is aimed at promoting the sales of newer, premium models.

Overall, Apple is committed to resolving the issue raised by the French radiation watchdog by providing a software update and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
