Japan's Nikkei 225 Index Soars
Japanese shares continued their upward trend for the third consecutive day. The Nikkei 225 Index NIK, +2.89% surged by 2.9% to reach 37,963.97. However, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange remained closed on Tuesday.
Singapore and South Korea Stocks Show Modest Gains
In Singapore, the FTSE Straits Times Index STI, +0.05% saw a slight increase of 0.1% to reach 3,139.94. Meanwhile, China's Shanghai Stock Exchange was closed for the day. In South Korea, the KOSPI Composite Index 180721, +1.12% rose by 1.1% to reach 2,649.64. On the other hand, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Benchmark Index XJO, -0.15% experienced a slight dip of 0.1% to reach 7,603.60.
Notable Gains and Losses
Among the constituents of the Nikkei 225 Index, Tokyo Electron 8035, +13.33%, a semiconductor company, experienced the largest increase with shares surging by 13.3%. Tokio Marine Holdings 8766, +11.00%, a non-life insurance firm, and MS&AD Insurance Group 8725, +10.82%, a full-line insurance company, also saw substantial gains of 11.0% and 10.8% respectively.
However, JGC Holdings 1963, -17.45%, an industrial building construction company, faced the biggest drop on Tuesday with shares plunging by 17.5%. Nippon Paper Industries 3863, -15.71%, a paper mills firm, and DeNA 2432, -7.27%, an online service providers company, also experienced declines of 15.7% and 7.3% respectively.
