The United Auto Workers (UAW) union announced an unanticipated decision to call a strike at Ford Motor Co.'s largest facility, the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville. This comes as a new phase of the ongoing strike, with 8,700 union members walking off the job at 6:30 p.m. ET. In response to Ford's alleged refusal to make further concessions in bargaining, the UAW described this move as necessary.
Ford, on the other hand, immediately condemned the union's decision, deeming it "grossly irresponsible." Despite making what it deems an outstanding offer during negotiations, Ford expressed concern over the severe consequences this strike will have on its workforce, suppliers, dealers, and commercial customers. The automaker emphasized that the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, and F-Series Super Duty vehicles produced at the Kentucky Truck Plant generate an annual sales revenue of $25 billion.
UAW President Shawn Fain intends to provide bargaining updates on Friday through a Facebook event. Meanwhile, Ford's shares experienced a 1% decrease after this announcement.
