After nearly 30 years in Seattle, Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos has announced his relocation to Miami. In an emotional Instagram post on Thursday night, the billionaire revealed that he is making the move to be closer to his aging parents and to oversee the operations of Blue Origin, his space company, in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Reflecting on his time in Seattle, Bezos acknowledged the city's significance in his life, saying, "I’ve lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here. As exciting as the move is, it’s an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart."
Last month, the 59-year-old entrepreneur purchased a stunning seven-bedroom mansion on a private island in Biscayne Bay for $79 million. This acquisition came just two months after he bought the house next door for $68 million. Bezos also owns other properties in Washington, Manhattan, and Maui.
Together with Microsoft Corp. co-founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen, Bezos played a pivotal role in transforming Seattle into a global tech hub. He founded Amazon in 1994, starting out in his garage in the Bellevue suburb of Seattle.
With an estimated net worth of around $161 billion, Bezos currently holds the title of the world's third-richest individual, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
