Microsoft has made an announcement that it will be incorporating advanced artificial intelligence-powered features into its software and Windows operating system. The highlight of this update is the more integrated 'Copilot' AI companion, which will work across various Microsoft products and services, such as Bing, the Edge browser, office productivity software, and Windows.
During a product event in New York, CEO Satya Nadella stated, "We believe Copilot will fundamentally transform computing," and added that it will empower individuals and organizations to achieve more.
The enhanced Copilot is designed to leverage contextual data from users' devices, as well as their previous Bing Chat history. In a product demonstration, the AI was able to search through a user's text messages to provide flight information upon request. Another demonstration showcased how Microsoft productivity applications can generate relevant graphics and charts based on text prompts and other files.
The upcoming release of Windows 11 on September 26 will include these new Copilot features.
In addition to the AI update, Microsoft also unveiled two new Surface laptops at the event. The first is the Laptop Go 3, which features a 12.4-inch screen and weighs 2.5 pounds. The second is the more powerful Laptop Studio 2, equipped with a 13th generation Intel processor and a Nvidia RTX 4050 or 4060 graphics chip. Both models are set to be released on October 3.
Following the announcements, Microsoft's shares experienced a 0.4% increase, reaching $322.10 on Thursday.
